Parasite Program
Restoring Health. Renewing Hope.
In many rural villages throughout Honduras, families face a hidden but serious health challenge that affects everyday life, learning, and long-term wellness. Intestinal parasites remain widespread in many communities, often caused by poor sanitation and limited access to clean water. These infections can lead to chronic sickness, anemia, fatigue, weakened immune systems, and delayed growth, especially among children whose bodies and minds are still developing.

At Honduran Hearts, we believe healthier communities create stronger futures. Through our Parasite Program, we are working to bring practical care, prevention education, and continued health support to the villages we serve.
The Need
In many municipalities throughout Honduras, intestinal parasites affect approximately 50% of the population. For many children and families living in rural mountain communities, access to consistent medical care and preventative treatment is extremely limited.
The effects often go unseen at first:
✔ Constant fatigue
✔ Difficulty concentrating in school
✔ Stomach illness and discomfort
✔ Delayed physical development
✔ Weakened immune systems
These challenges impact not only health, but also education, work, and everyday quality of life for entire families.

Our Response
In 2025, Honduran Hearts launched a long-term initiative to help address this growing health crisis in the seven communities we serve.
Our program currently provides:
✔ Bi-annual de-parasite treatments
✔ Vitamins and nutritional support
✔ Prevention and hygiene education
✔ Community health outreach
Whenever opportunities arise, we also extend support to additional villages beyond our primary service areas.
What began with uncertainty and hesitation has steadily grown into a trusted and welcomed outreach. As word continues to spread throughout the communities, more families continue to seek support and participate in the program.
The Impact
Simple treatments can make a significant difference.
When paired with nutritional support and education, parasite treatments help:
✔ Restore strength and energy
✔ Improve overall wellness
✔ Support healthy growth in children
✔ Help students return to school ready to learn
✔ Encourage healthier futures for entire communities

Our vision is to continue expanding this effort so that every six months individuals within the communities we serve receive both parasite treatment and ongoing vitamin support that strengthens long-term health and resilience.
Program Cost
One of the most encouraging aspects of this outreach is how meaningful impact can come through relatively simple support.
Current program costs include:
✔ Approximately $6 per person annually for two de-parasite treatments
✔ Approximately $5 per person for a 45-day supply of vitamins (March 2026 pricing)
Because in-country supply costs can vary, program expenses may fluctuate throughout the year.
Every contribution helps us continue bringing practical care, prevention education, and renewed hope to families across these villages.
